South African singer Simphiwe Dana has released her deeply personal album MOYA, a project centered on healing, reflection, and spiritual renewal. Released in January 2026, the album marks an emotive new chapter in Dana’s celebrated career.

The timing of the release is deeply significant, coinciding with both Dana’s birth month and the anniversary of her late mother’s passing, making it a period of remembrance, letting go, and new beginnings.

MOYA blends jazz and Afro‑soul across 15 tracks, spanning over an hour of music that takes listeners on a journey toward emotional balance. Dana has shared that creating the album helped her release years of stoicism, pain, and anger, allowing her to reconnect with her spiritual self and honor her emotions rather than hiding from them.

The album’s title, MOYA, meaning “spirit” or “breath,” reflects both the innocence and wonder of childhood and a path toward spiritual grounding. The lead single, “Mayenzeke,” sets the emotional tone, exploring themes of surrender, acceptance, and the idea that true healing comes from confronting grief rather than avoiding it.

Dana revealed that she worked through her own grief while making the album, aiming to provide comfort, solace, and peace to listeners navigating their own personal challenges. MOYA is designed to soothe, calm negative emotions, and inspire renewal, inviting listeners to breathe, feel deeply, and begin anew.
