Early Life

Born and raised in the coastal town of Kommetjie, Jeremy Loops is the eldest of three siblings. His multicultural background includes a Swiss mother and a South African father. After completing his schooling, he attended the University of Cape Town, where he earned a degree in Finance and Property Development. Despite his academic background, Loops discovered his passion for music relatively late, only picking up the guitar during his final years at university.

Career Beginnings (2009–2010)

Following his graduation in 2008, Loops spent two years traveling the world while working aboard a superyacht. During this period, he began experimenting with a loop pedal, a tool that would become central to his signature sound. This innovation allowed him to create rich, layered music as a solo performer. Upon returning to South Africa in 2010, he committed fully to his music career and co-founded the environmental organization Greenpop, reflecting his dedication to sustainability and reforestation.

Debut EP and Rise to Prominence (2011–2013)

In October 2011, Jeremy Loops released his self-titled debut EP, which, although now out of print, laid the foundation for his future work. Many tracks from this EP were later reworked for his debut album. Over the next few years, he built a strong reputation in South Africa through dynamic live performances, culminating in winning the Best Live Act Award at the 2014 MK Awards.

Trading Change and International Expansion (2014–2018)

Loops’ debut album, Trading Change, was released in South Africa in March 2014, with the lead single "Down South" featuring Motheo Moleko becoming a major hit on South African radio. The album debuted at number one on iTunes South Africa and propelled Loops onto international stages. Between 2014 and 2016, he toured extensively across the United States, Europe, and Australia, supporting acts like Rebelution and Twenty One Pilots, as well as headlining his own tours including the Continental Drift and Trading Change tours. In 2018, he released Critical as Water, an album inspired by the severe water crisis in Cape Town, showcasing his ability to blend social commentary with music.

Recent Work and Continued Success (2019–Present)

In April 2022, Jeremy Loops released the single "Better Together," preceding his third studio album, Heard You Got Love, which was officially released on July 8, 2022. Continuing his tradition of meaningful songwriting, Loops’ 2024 single "Go Again" highlights themes of resilience and hope, reflecting on the challenges faced during the COVID-19 pandemic and social unrest. This track is part of his upcoming album, signaling an exciting new chapter in his evolving career.
