His musical journey began with the formation of a group called Flying Squad, with whom he recorded a demo cassette submitted to Gallo Records. Despite their debut album, Mr Tony (1985), not achieving commercial success, the group was given a second chance by the late Hamilton Nzimande of Gallo Records. Under the mentorship of Ray Phiri from Stimela, the band was rebranded as Splash, gaining momentum and recognition in the South African music scene.
